Healthcare Practice & Business Deals

Three notable transactions headline this week’s healthcare deal activity, spanning dental DSO roll-ups, senior primary care, and AI-driven health technology.

Heartland Dental acquires Foundation Dental Partners. Heartland Dental has added Foundation Dental Partners and its 33 supported practices to its growing portfolio. The deal extends a 13-month acquisition run that also included Smile Design Dentistry and its 60 supported practices, Inspire Dental of NC, and nearly two dozen solo practices. No financial terms were disclosed. Heartland is one of the nation’s largest dental support organizations, and the Foundation deal reinforces the ongoing DSO consolidation trend.

BlackRock takes majority stake in Humana’s CenterWell clinics. Humana announced a $2.8 billion joint venture with BlackRock, giving the investment firm a majority stake in nearly 150 CenterWell senior primary care clinics. The deal replaces Humana’s prior partnership with Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe. Humana retains an ongoing role in the venture. The transaction signals continued institutional appetite for senior-focused primary care assets.

Suki raises $90 million in Series E funding. AI clinical documentation company Suki closed a $90 million Series E round. The company says it will use the capital to develop AI agents and deepen relationships with its 30 health technology partners. The raise came less than a week after Suki launched a new AI capability. While not a practice acquisition, the round reflects accelerating private investment in AI infrastructure for healthcare settings.

Global Markets & Macro

Markets face a turbulent week as a chip selloff, rising bond yields, and the start of earnings season converge.

AI chip selloff rattles equities. A deepening selloff in chipmakers drove broad equity weakness as Wall Street kicked off earnings season. Concerns about the sustainability of the artificial-intelligence trade weighed on both US stocks and emerging markets. The AI-linked decline sent emerging-market equities toward their worst single session since July, also pressuring currency markets globally.

Ray Dalio warns the Treasury selloff has further to run. Billionaire investor Ray Dalio cautioned that the US bond market decline is far from over. He pointed to surging government and corporate borrowing colliding with weakening demand from some of the world’s largest traditional buyers. Trending commentary across financial media echoes this concern, with many analysts flagging systemic risk in the Treasury market and the growing burden of US debt obligations.

Big bank earnings boost equities desks. JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs reported strong quarterly results, lifted by their equities businesses. Meanwhile, fixed-income trading desks struggled in the third quarter, marking a rare quarter where equity traders outshone their bond-market counterparts. The results offered some reassurance, though analysts warn that sustaining S&P 500 earnings momentum will grow harder as the bar rises each quarter.

Trump-Russia diesel deal stirs market and political debate. President Trump claimed a deal with Russia to ease a global diesel shortage, with the Treasury Department waiving sanctions to enable Russian exports. Diesel futures dipped after the announcement. However, analysts and market intelligence firms expressed doubt that the volumes involved would meaningfully move US diesel prices. Average US diesel prices remain well above $6 per gallon. The deal also drew bipartisan congressional criticism and legal questions about compliance with existing import bans.

IMF upgrades UK growth outlook. The International Monetary Fund upgraded its economic outlook for the United Kingdom, citing the technology and AI sector as a key driver of growth. The fund identified Britain as one of the emerging winners of the global tech boom. Separately, UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt rejected calls to equalize capital gains and income tax rates, easing concerns among entrepreneurs and investors.

What to Watch

Dental DSO consolidation shows no sign of slowing, with Heartland’s latest acquisition adding to a busy 13-month run. In the capital markets, all eyes remain on whether bank earnings momentum can offset anxiety over the AI trade, rising Treasury yields, and a diesel supply shock that is adding political pressure ahead of US midterm elections. Practice owners and investors alike should monitor interest rate direction closely — Dalio’s warning and widespread commentary on debt sustainability suggest the rate environment will remain a key variable in deal financing through year-end.
